Paul Doyle

Growing up in St. Lawrence he started playing at an early age and played until work caused him to move away. Although his mother never wanted him to play and refused to attend any games, his father was at all of the home games and always supported him financially allowing him to attend out of town games and tournaments. Being a Doyle and having your brothers, cousins and friends playing soccer, was their any doubt that he would end up in the meadows and on the soccer pitch. Paul always enjoyed the game and was always most happy when he was on the soccer pitch competing whether that was to try a win a spot on the team or competing for the Laurentians against any number of rival teams.

Coached through his career by Len Slaney, Junior Edwards, Jerome Slaney, Moose Fitzpatrick, Jack Simms & Reg Farrell, they guided and helped him develop his skills as a player and a person.

Paul was a very skilful player as well as a good team player and through his years in soccer he earned many individual awards, including Most Improved, Most Sportsmanlike and several MVP Awards.

Teams he played with had success as well that Paul contributed to, including an Under 18 Provincial title, 4 Provincial Challenge Cup titles, two Atlantic Canadian championships and an Eastern Canadian Championship. He was also selected to a Newfoundland All Star team. Paul lists as his most memorable moments, the National Challenge Cup silver medals won in 1975 in Winnipeg and 1977 in St. Lawrence as well as the 1976 tournament in Toronto.

Since Paul moved away to Houston BC. In 1981 he has given back to the soccer community there as he involved in starting the minor soccer program in Houston and continues to coach high school soccer as well as an under 18 community team.

The St. Lawrence Soccer Hall of Fame inducts Paul Doyle who takes his place in the Hall alongside his brother Junior.
