The button accordion, pipe and Donegal tweed cap are the unmistakable trademarks of Newfoundland's favourite son, Harry Hibbs. Harry is known for his jigs, reels and other dance pieces as well as original ballads; his motto was "We'll rant and we'll roar like true Newfoundlanders."
The son of a Bell Island miner, Harry Hibbs learned to play the button accordion as a boy. After moving to Toronto in 1961, Harry played in local clubs and later hosted a weekly television show, which was broadcast in the Toronto and Hamilton area until 1976. Hibbs also appeared on numerous other television shows and at festivals across the country and returned to Newfoundland to perform regularly. In his 21-year career, Harry traveled to countless cities and towns bringing his heritage with him and leaving behind the warmth and love of Newfoundland, his native home which he so proudly represented. By 1982 he had recorded 15 albums, seven of which had earned gold records.
This album marks the first time many of Harry's best-loved songs are available on CD. We hope you enjoy the memories.
