Allan Ricketts is a young traditional musician and visual artist from Torbay, NL. Allan plays traditional Newfoundland and Irish songs and has developed a deeply authentic approach to this tradition. He has performed at numerous special events and festivals, including the Hillside Festival in Torbay, the Annual NL Folk Festival in St. John's, Eastport Accordion Festival, and the Burin Folk Festival.
As part of the NL Youth Ventures Program, Allan was the recipient of the 2004 & 2005 High Artistic Achievement Award. In 2006, under the same program, he was awarded the Culture and Tourism Award.
Allan was one of 4 artists selected under the National Artist Program to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina, Saskatchewan. In April 2006, he toured Ireland with a group called the Potluck Singers.
On his first CD, Allan showcased his talent as a songwriter and composer, and recorded songs by Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Andy Irvine, Pat Byrne, Al Pittman, and traditional songs that he arranged with the help of Patrick Moran (The Punters). He also showcased his talent as a songwriter and composer.
Everything points to Allan becoming a strong force on the traditional music scene.
